Non-surgical Foot Pain Relief: What Are My Alternatives to Plantar Fasciitis Surgery?

Chiropractic Blogger • Jul 03, 2023

Yes, there are non-surgical treatments and alternative approaches in place of plantar fasciitis surgery. Learn what they are here.

plantar fasciitis surgery

Plantar fasciitis is a very painful disruption to daily life. And, unfortunately, one in ten people will experience it.

You'll know you have this problem when there is regular pain on the bottom of your foot toward the heel. Your feet may also feel very stiff and tired all the time. This happens when the tick tissue that connects to the heel on the bottom of your foot swells.

It's all very uncomfortable and makes even the most basic tasks hard. Luckily, there are many ways to fix it! Try these remedies before heading into plantar fasciitis surgery!

Time with Ice

The easiest way to treat plantar fasciitis pain is to spend some time with ice on the bottom of your foot. This will help reduce the inflammation and ease the pressure as a result.

Rotate between having the ice on and off every couple of minutes until you feel the relief.

To take it to the next level, freeze a water bottle as your ice. Then you can roll your foot along the frozen bottle. This added pressure with the cold can feel amazing on your hurting feet.

Wear a Walking Boot

When the foot ligament becomes too swollen, it can become a little unstable. This is where the pain comes from. It's helpful to do everything you can to secure that area during your regular activities.

Wearing a walking boot can be the perfect solution for this. With the boot, you'll still be able to do everything you usually do. But those areas will have the support and structure that they need to heal.

The boot will give your other foot muscles a break as well. Leaving your foot feeling much less tired than before.

Kinesio Taping for Stability

Another, less intrusive, way to achieve the same goal is to use Kinesio tape instead of the boot.

This tape can be placed on the underside of the foot in a specific pattern. That pulls the ligaments up and into place. You'll feel the extra support as you move through your day without the bulk of a boot.

A quick trip to the chiropractor for Kinesio taping can lead to a break from the pain.

Strengthening Exercises

For long-term relief, you'll need to really build the strength back to keep the swelling away. The best way to do that is to add regular foot exercises to your daily routine.

There are many exercises you can do based on your preferences. They'll need to include moving your toes and stretching the underside of your foot. But they won't do you any good if you only do them once or twice.

It must be a very consistent effort that you do every day for many months for real healing.

Add Shoe Inserts

An easy treatment for plantar fasciitis is to add an insert into your regular shoes. You can do this once and see results for months! Plantar fasciitis is often caused because the foot isn't in the correct position for a long time. When you add the insert, you're forcing your foot into the right place.

As you continue to wear the shoe, your foot will start to get stronger with less pain.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Sometimes, there are other parts of your body out of alignment that can cause poor foot health.

When this is the case, it can be helpful to get some chiropractic adjustments. The chiropractor will check your lower back, hips, and ankles for areas that need better alignment. Once it's done, you can have better posture which will help keep the pain from coming back.

It may take a couple of visits to really solve the problem. But each appointment will be a step in the right direction.

Other Therapeutic Interventions

Foot pain can be very limiting, which is frustrating to deal with. This is why so many are willing to try all kinds of therapeutic interventions to fix the problem.

Laser therapy has been known to reduce swelling and promote tissue healing. Similarly, shock-wave therapy sends vibrations to the damaged tissue to stimulate collagen production. Both are non-invasive procedures that are quick and painless but offer big results.

Variety of Pain Medication Options

On a day-to-day basis, it might be helpful to add pain medication. This will allow you to get through your activities and work towards healing without all the pain.

When those options aren't bringing any relief, you can try something stronger. Cortisone, botox, or platelet-rich plasma shots can bring pain relief for much longer periods of time. These can be extra helpful when you have to be on your feet for longer or when you first start a healing routine.

It's important to remember that these aren't permanent fixes. They should only be used while working on other remedy options for full healing.

Take a Break From Heavy Walking

It can be really difficult to cure plantar fasciitis when you're always on your feet. There's just no opportunity for the inflammation to go down when the pressure doesn't quit.

One of the best things you can do is take a break from the heavy walking. The more you limit the time on your feet, the better they can heal. It's not realistic to say you'll say off your feet completely but limiting your activity can be a huge help.

Find Relief Without Plantar Fasciitis Surgery

Plantar fasciitis surgery is one way to fix this really difficult problem. But it doesn't have to be the only option! There are many remedies you can try before jumping to that extreme.

The key to finding relief (no matter what remedy you're trying) is to be consistent. It takes time to build the lost strength back, so don't give up after just a few days. The longer you stick with it, the better your results are going to be.

And getting help from professionals is always a good idea. Fisher Chiropractic team of chiropractors has helped many find plantar fasciitis pain. Contact us today to schedule an adjustment appointment!
